After spending the past four season as a member of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice softball program, Marlenne Nunez now joins the ranks of coaching and is in her first season as assistant coach for the program she lettered for.
Nunez, who graduated from John Jay in 2009 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice, played an important role in the resurgence of the softball program at John Jay. After playing for a team that won just three games her freshman year, the program now poses a serious threat to the top tier softball programs in the City University of New York Athletic Conference.
As a player, Nunez recorded 74 career hits, including 12 doubles, a triple and a homerun. She recorded 40 runs batted in and tallied 95 total bases.
During her junior year she was named second team All-CUNYAC after batting a career-high .290 with seven doubles and 14 runs batted in.
Nunez also spent a year on the women’s basketball team during the 2005-06 season which earned a bid into the ECAC Metro Regional tournament.
In addition to her coaching duties, Nunez is currently a graduate student at John Jay.
She attended Bronx Leadership Academy High School in the Bronx and was a member of their girls softball, basketball and volleyball programs.
