New York, N.Y. – Fresh off the heels of one of the most productive seasons in recent memory, the John Jay College of Criminal Justice softball team had four players named 2009 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) All-Stars as perennial All-Star
Danielle Bonici (Staten Island, NY, St. Peter's Girls)and
Nina Chao (Woodside, NY, W.C. Bryant) were named to the first team, while
Christina Perez (Brooklyn, NY, James Madison)and
Kim Bifulco (Staten Island, NY, St. John Villa) were named to the second team.
Bonici made the first team for the third year in a row. Once again, the All-Star shortstop had a highly productive season, which included a .387 batting average (36-for-93), with 22 runs, five doubles, two triples, two homeruns, a team co-high 27 RBI and a Bloodhound best 51 total bases. She started in all 32 John Jay games this season.
Through her first three seasons, Bonici, in 94 career games (all starts), she had a lifetime .403 batting average (110-for-273) with 75 runs, 12 doubles, seven triples, six homeruns and 79 RBI. She has amassed 154 total bases and has struck out a mere 20 times in 273 at bats.
Chao makes the team for the first time in her career. The second year third baseman posted a .298 batting average (28-for-94) in 2009 with a team-leads of nine doubles and three homeruns, team co-high 27 RBI and 46 total bases. She started in all 33 games this season. As a pitcher, Chao collected four wins and pitched 67.1 innings.
Perez earns a spot on the team for the first time in her career. The second year outfielder led the team in hitting, sporting a .390 batting average (23-for-59) with five doubles, a homerun and 18 RBI. She saw action in 26 games and started 25 of them, including several as catcher.
Bifulco, a freshman prodigy, did not disappoint as she played a major role in the Bloodhounds resurgence into prominence. The first year designated player and pitcher batted .328 (21-for-64) with five doubles, a homerun, 17 RBI and 29 total bases. While pitching, Bifulco was 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA. She pitched 21.0 innings and struck out 14 batters and limited the opposition to a .167 batting average.
John Jay finished the season 13-21 (8-4 CUNYAC) overall including a fourth place finish in CUNYAC.
