Men's Basketball Loses at York

Jamaica, N.Y.— The John Jay men’s basketball team lost to York College 75-55 in a conference game on Monday afternoon.

The Bloodhounds were led by Chris Jaeger (Hicksville, NY, Hicksville) with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Lionel Lorquet (Rosedale, NY, St. John's Prep)had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The host Cardinals scored the first seven points of the game and led from start to finish.

York grabbed a double-digit lead with 12:58 to go in the first half and was up 14-4, and the Cardinals never led by less than 10 the rest of the way.

York used a 12-0 run to take a 7-4 lead and turn it into a 19-4 advantage with 11:55 remaining.

Leading 29-16 with 5:28 to go, York outscored John Jay 11-4 the rest of the way to take a 20 point lead at halftime as the Cardinals led 40-20.

York held a 20 plus point lead through the first nine plus minutes of the second half. The Cardinals led by as much as 28 early before the Bloodhounds cut into the lead.

York led 50-22 before the Bloodhounds went on a 14-4 run to pull to within 20 at 54-36 with 10:44 remaining. A jumper by Darryl Dennis (Valley Stream, NY, Valley Stream) capped the run.

The Cardinals went back up by 20 plus, before John Jay came back with one more thrust later in the second half. York was up 59-36 with 9:34 to go before John Jay went on a 10-2 spurt to pull to within 15 with 4:50 to go as the Bloodhounds trailed 61-46.

But John Jay could get no closer as York kept a safe lead the rest of the way en route to remaining undefeated in conference play this season.

The Cardinals were led by Nick Hamilton-Lopez with 22 points and nine assists. Marcel Esonwune had 16 points and 14 rebounds for York.

John Jay returns to action on Wed. Jan. 20 for a contest at the College of Staten Island at 7:30 p.m.
