Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay men’s basketball team was defeated by the College of Staten Island (CSI) 88-72 at the CSI Sports & Recreation Complex on Wednesday.

The Bloodhounds were led by Chris Jaeger (Hicksville, NY, Hicksville) with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while fellow teammates Darryl Dennis (Valley Stream, NY, Valley Stream)and Joseph Padell (Staten Island, NY, Tottenville) netted 13 each. Lionel Lorquet (Rosedale, NY, St. John's Prep) knocked in 12 and had seven rebounds.

The host Dolphins led start to finish against the undermanned Bloodhounds who were playing without several key starters due to injuries. CSI scored the first seven points of the game before John Jay got on the scoreboard.

The Bloodhounds answered with five straight points to get to within two. But that was as close as John Jay would get as the Dolphins outscored John Jay 17-6 during the middle stages of the first half to take a double-digit lead and CSI was up 24-11 with 8:15 to play.

The Dolphins never led by less than double-figures the rest of the way, and behind a 53 percent shooting night, exploded for 48 points in the first half and led 48-26 at halftime.

CSI opened the second half on a 6-0 spurt to go up by 28 and led 54-26 with just over two minutes gone by.

The Dolphins upped their lead to as much as 30 and held the Bloodhounds at bay the rest of the way.

CSI held a 20 plus point lead through most of the second half before John Jay chipped away late. The Bloodhounds outscored the Dolphins 32-18 over the final 11:13 to get to within 14 points before the final buzzer.

CSI was led by Christian Montervino with 18 points, while Dale Taranto and Jordan Young scored 14 each.
