Men's Basketball Falls in Close one at City Tech

Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay men’s basketball team was defeated by New York City College of Technology (NYCCT) 82-74 on Friday evening.

John Jay, now 1-17 (1-7 CUNYAC) were led by Daniel Desir (Jamaica, NY, Jamaica), Darryl Dennis (Valley Stream, NY, Valley Stream) and Vaughn Mason (Bronx, NY, Alfred E. Smith) with 18 points each, while Chris Jaeger (Hicksville, NY, Hicksville)scored 13. Desir had a team-high 14 rebounds in the contest.

The host Yellow Jackets led the entire first half and led by one at halftime as they were up 35-34. NYCCT led by as much as seven in the tightly contested first half behind 62.5 percent shooting from the floor.

The Bloodhounds only lead in the contest came early in the second half when they led by one on two occasions, most recently when they were up 40-39 with three minutes gone by on a lay-up by Desir.

But NYCCT reclaimed the lead on the ensuing possession and gradually established a large lead. The Yellow Jackets led by as much as 17 in the second half and were up 65-48 with 7:24 remaining.

John Jay cut into the deficit and got to within five with just 20 seconds remaining but too little to late as the Yellow Jackets held on for the win.

NYCCT was led by Gabriel Davis with 27 points and 10 rebounds.

John Jay held a 40-28 advantage in rebounding, but NYCCT shot 57.4 percent from the floor in the contest.

John Jay is back in action on Wed. Jan. 27 at Baruch College at 7:30 p.m.
