Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay women’s basketball team was defeated by conference foe New York City College of Technology (NYCCT) 73-49 at the Klitford Gymnasium on Friday evening.

The Bloodhounds, now 0-17 (0-8 CUNYAC) were led by Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NY, North Babylon) with 19 points, leaving her just three shy of 1,000 for her career. Jessica Lirio (Bronx, NY, St. Barnabas) added 18 and nine rebounds.

John Jay shot 31 percent (18-for-58) from the field and committed 25 turnovers, compared to 13 for NYCCT. NYCCT held a 33-6 advantage in points off turnovers.

The host Yellow Jackets led most of the way. NYCCT took its first lead of the night when they led 7-5, during a 9-0 run that gave them the lead for good.

Up seven at 28-21 with 7:02 remaining, NYCCT closed out the half on a 19-3 run to break the contest open and the Yellow Jackets led 47-24 at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets maintained a sizeable lead in the second half. The Bloodhounds got to within 19 with 10:37 to go capping a 6-0 run, but NYCCT went back up by over 20 and maintained that lead for the remainder in the contest.

NYCCT was led by Christine Jackson with 20 points, while Casey Tempestt and Kimberly Battle recorded double-doubles. Tempesett had 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Battle had 15 points and 10 boards.

John Jay returns to action on Mon. Jan. 25 at Manhattanville College at 6 p.m.
