Women's Basketball Loses Non Conference Affair at NJCU

Jersey City, N.J.— Junior guard Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NY, North Babylon) netted a career-high 29 points but the Bloodhounds were defeated on Monday as John Jay lost at New Jersey City University (NJCU) 77-53 in non conference action.

With the loss, John Jay is now 0-20 this season.

Jessica Lirio (Bronx, NY, St. Barnabas) was the only other Bloodhound to notch double figures chipping in with 12.

The host Gothic Knights opened the contest on a 12-2 run and led from start to finish.

The Bloodhounds followed with a 9-2 run to pull to within three and they trailed 14-11 midway through the first half. But that was as close as John Jay would get again as NJCU used a 9-0 run immediately after to go back up by 12 and the Gothic Knights led 23-11 with 6:35 to go.

NJCU never led by less than double figures the rest of the way as the Gothic Knights went up by as much as 17 in the first half and led 34-17 with just under a minute to go before going into halftime up 34-19.

NJCU gradually increased its lead through most of the second half and led by as much as 35 over the stanza and were 73-38 with 6:15 to go.

The Bloodhounds outscored NJCU 16-4 over the final six minutes to close the gap before the final buzzer.

NJCU was led by Ebony Cunningham with 22 points off the bench as the Gothic Knights outscored the Bloodhounds 29-2 in points off the bench. Latifah Johnson added 16 for NJCU.

The Gothic Knights held a 51-35 edge in rebounding.

John Jay is back in action on Wed. Feb. 3 at Lehman College at 7:15 p.m.
