Women's Swimming in Fifth After Day One

Bronx, N.Y.— Day one is in the books at the 2010 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) women's swimming and diving championships at Lehman College's Apex Center and the John Jay Bloodhounds are fifth of six teams at the event with 110 points. Baruch leads after day one with 293 points,

Kaili Insalaco (Palm Coast, FL, Flagler Palm Coast) scored first for John Jay by finishing sixth in the 500 yard freestyle (6:33.41), while Nathalie Cuellar (New Rochelle, NY, New Rochelle) was just behind and finished eighth (6:38.00). Billie Jean Kuppler (Long Island City, NY, Long Island City) was 12th (7:28.60), while Amanda Garcia (Astoria, NY, St. John's Prep) was 16th (7:42.50).

In the 200 yard individual medley, Johanna McLaughlin (New York, NY, Beacon School)was 10th (2:53.06), while Rose Edelman (Garden City, NY, Garden City) was 11th (2:56.65).

The 50 yard freestyle saw Justyna Maksimiuk (Sunnyside, NY, Brooklyn Tech)finish fourth (28.40), while Keshia Hacker (Brooklyn, NY, Murray Bergtraum)was 14th (32.08). Teresa Medina (Fishkill, NY, John Jay)was 16th (37.10), while Catherine Gomez (Ozone Park, NY, Queens Vocational) was 17th (37.65).

John Jay's final event of day one was the 200 yard free relay where the team of Insalaco, Cuellar, Edelman and Maksimiuk finished sixth (1:57.36), while Kuppler, Maiello, McLaughlin and Hacker teamed to finish ninth (2:10.37).

Day two picks up on Friday at 3 p.m. Friday's events include the 200 yard medley relay, 400 yard individual medley, 100 yard butterfly, 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 800 yard free relay.
