Baseball Falls to Capital

Port Charlotte, Fla.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated by Capital University 17-5 at the Snowbird Classic on Wednesday morning.
The Bloodhounds got an excellent game from Benjamin Beiro (Bronx, NY, Wesley Chapel) who was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Meanwhile, Xavier Perez (Bronx, NY, Manhattan Center) was 2-for-4 with a double a run and two RBI.
Capital University scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning to lead by a half dozen runs after one inning of play.
Capital led 10-0 after five innings before John Jay got on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth. Dennis Lopez (Selden, NY, Newfield), who was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs, scored on a wild pitch. Moments later Nick Catalano (Staten Island, NY, St. Peter's Boys)scored on an RBI single by Perez.
Capital scored six more runs in the bottom half of the frame to go up 16-2 before the Bloodhounds got back three in the top of the eighth. Courtesy of an error by Capital, John Jay platted three unearned scores. A two-run single by Beiro scored Perez and Catalano to highlight the inning.
John Jay had five runs on eight hits in the contest, while Capital had 19 hits in the contest.
Taylor Perez (Staten Island, NY, Fossil Ridge) took the loss after starting the game, going six inning and allowing 14 runs on 15 hits.
Capital was led by Ian Smith who was 4-for-6 with two runs and four RBI.
John Jay will face Capital again on Thu. Mar. 4 at 9 a.m.
