New York, N.Y. — Sophomore rifle shooter
Stephen Zawislak (Valley Stream, NY, Valley Stream South) was recently rewarded for his ability to hit the target at the rifle range and make his mark in the classroom as Zawislak was one of twenty rifle shooters to be named to the Mid Atlantic Conference (MAC) All-Academic team for the 2009-10 rifle season.
At the range, Zawislak had a fantastic season, scoring as high as a 565 out of 600 in small bore and as high as a 572 in air rifle.
“This award means a lot of me. When I learned I had got the honor, I was very surprised,” said Zawislak. “There are some very great schools in the MAC Conference and to be amongst the top 20 in combined shooting and academics, I was really amazed.”
As a student, Zawislak, a criminal justice major, has a 3.58 grade point average. Zawislak has never considered himself a prized student, but credits the need to focus on the target in the rifle range as a way to focus on other tasks in life.
“I never really thought of myself as a great student,” said Zawislak. “But being the rifle requires so much focusing, it has allowed me to focus more in the classroom and help make me a better student.”
