Men's Tennis Lose Tight Match at the College of Staten Island, Finish Third in CUNYAC Regular Season

Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay men’s tennis team lost a very close match on Thursday afternoon, losing to the College of Staten Island 5-4 at the CSI Tennis Complex.

With the loss, John Jay is now 9-2 overall and finish the 2010 conference schedule with a 6-2 CUNYAC mark and have solidified third place in the conference standings.

Ben Jorgensen (New York, NY, Wooster) and Josh Pagan (Douglaston, NY, Benjamin Cardozo) were the lone doubles winners, teaming up for a win at No. 2 to win 8-3.

Dong Shao won at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-2. John Jay also picked up wins at No’s 5 & 6, both in three sets. At No. 6, Kelvin Rodriguez (Bronx, NY, Bronx Law, Government & Justice) was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 winner, while Derrick Chung (San Diego, CA, Rancho Buena Vista)won at No. 5. He lost the first set 4-6 before winning the second set 6-4 and winning 10-6 in a super tiebreaker.

John Jay returns to action on Tue. Apr. 27 for a home match against Ramapo College at 3:30 p.m.
