Men’s Tennis Players Receive CUNYAC Honors

New York, N.Y.— After a successful season in 2010 which saw them win 10 games for the second year in a row, several players from the John Jay men's tennis team was honored by the City University of New York Athletic Conference as Josh Pagan (Douglaston, NY, Benjamin Cardozo), Dong Shao (Flushing, NY, Patchogue-Medford) and Derrick Chung (San Diego, CA, Rancho Buena Vista) were named conference first team All-Stars, while teammate Ben Jorgensen (New York, NY, Wooster) was named an Honorable Mention.

Pagan was named to the first team for the second year in a row. After going undefeated at No. 2 singles in 2009, Pagan had another great season going 9-2 overall at No. 1 singles and 12-1 in doubles play. The senior team MVP won all his matches in two sets and was 6-2 against CUNYAC opponents.

Shao, the 2008 Rookie of the Year was perfect at No. 2 singles this season. He made quick work of most of his opponents, winning all singles matches in two sets and no opponent scored more than three wins in a set against him.

Chung, who was an honorable mention last season, gobbled up the competition at No. 5 singles most of the season. He was 11-1 overall and was undefeated against CUNYAC opponents this year, finishing 8-0. He was 8-1 at No. 5 singles and a combined 3-0 at No's. 3 and 4.

Jorgensen, who coached the team last season before returning to college fulltime was 9-5 overall this season in singles play and 11-2 in doubles play.
