New York, N.Y.— Post season awards continue to come in the direction of baseball players
Xavier Perez (Bronx, NY, Manhattan Center) and
Wilmer Chavez (Corona, NY, Queens Vocational). The pair of Bloodhounds most recent awards came via the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) as Perez and Chavez were both named to the ABCA / Rawlings New York Region third team for the 2010 season.
Perez, who was named a City University of New York Athletic Conference second team All-Star and won the conference's Sportsmanship Award earlier this season, made the team after another phenomenal season with the Bloodhounds. The three-time all-conference star batting a team-high .412, which ranks in the top 200 in NCAA Division III and a CUNYAC-high eight triples, which puts him in the top five in that category.
Chavez, who also was named a CUNYAC second team All-Star this season, batting a healthy .395 this season with a conference best 48 RBI, which places him just outside the top 100 in NCAA Division III.
“Xavier and Wilmer had incredible seasons and are very deserving be a part of this very prestigious team,” said John Jay head baseball coach Dan Palumbo. “The New York Region has some great talent and elite teams, and for them to be a part of teams that have such elite baseball players is a privilege.”
