John Jay Athletics Mourns the Loss of Dr. Morton D. Steuer (1934-2010)

The John Jay College of Criminal Justice Department of Athletics mourns the loss of Dr. Morton D. Steuer who passed away on Thursday after a battle with leukemia. 

Dr. Steuer has been affiliated with the John Jay athletics department since the Fall 2005. He served as adjunct associate professor and assistant women's swim coach for the Department of Physical Education and Athletics where he taught health and fitness classes. 

Before coming to John Jay Dr. Steuer retired from a very successful chiropractic practice he held for 30 years. He held a master's degree in educational counseling from Long Island University, where he was also an associate professor and head swimming coach there. 

A selfless supporter, Dr. Steuer volunteered for numerous organizations including the World Maccabi Games and the American Red Cross. 

A veteran of the United States Army, Dr. Steuer was attached to special services as head post athletic trainer. 

Dr. Steuer is survived by his wife Betty and two daughters Rebecca and Sarah. 

A funeral service was held on Sunday where more than 250 people attended. 

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Morton Steuer," said John Jay Director of Athletics, Dan Palumbo. "Dr. Steuer was an incredible man who loved life and was a pleasure to be around."
