Women's Volleyball Loses 3-0 at Ramapo in the 2010 Season Opener

Mahwah, N.J.— The John Jay women's volleyball team was defeated in its 2010 season opener on Thursday as the Bloodhounds lost 3-0 at Ramapo. The Bloodhounds were defeated by scores of 25-7, 25-13, 25-5.

John Jay was led by Rosmery Martinez (Santo Domingo, DR, James Madison) and Martina Hot (Glendale, NY, Academy of American Studies) with two kills each, while Crystal Reyes (Bronx, NY, DeWitt-Clinton) had three assists and a service ace. Rocio Chavira (Bronx, NY, Fashion Industries)chipped in with five digs.

The host Roadrunners led from start to finish in the opening set. Ramapo scored seven of the first eight points of the opening set to take a 7-1 lead. Ramapo continued to increase its advantage and took a 10-point lead on three straight services aces by Allison DiAngelo.

Ramapo led by as much as 18 points in the first set and was 24-6 before winning the match.

The Bloodhounds had several leads early in the second set and led 5-3 after a service ace by Chivera. But with the score tied 8-8, the Roadrunners rallied off four straight points to take a four point lead and stay in front for the remainder of the set.

Ramapo scored the first 10 points of the third set and never looked back en route to the three-set win.

The Roadrunners were led by Maura Burke with seven kills and three service aces, while Tiffany Fischer had 24 assists.

John Jay returns to action on Sat. Sept. 4 at the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) at noon.
