Poughkeepsie, N.Y.— On a beautiful 76 degree day along the Hudson Valley in upstate New York, the John Jay women’s cross country team finished 10th of 10 schools at the Vassar College Invitational, its 2010 season opener. The Bloodhounds finished with 301 points. The host Brewers won the invitational with a perfect score of 15 as the first five finishers were all from Vassar.

For John Jay, Julia Gilgurd (Riga, Lativa, New Dorp) was the top finisher, finishing in 80th of 99 runners in 26:44 over the five kilometer course. Baljit Kahlon (Queens Village, NY, Bryant) was second best for John Jay, finishing in 85th in 27:21.

Newcomer Miracle Roman (Bronx, NY, Babylon)was third best for John Jay and 88th overall in 27:57. Meanwhile fellow newcomers Janet Lamberty (Bronx, NY, Food & Finance) and Shannell Taylor (Brooklyn, NY, John Jay) finished fourth and fifth respectively on the team and 97th and 98th overall. Lamberty did the course in 32:07, while Taylor came across the finish line in 32:34.

John Jay returns to action on Sun. Sept. 12 for the Baruch College Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park at 10 a.m.
