Jamaica, N.Y.— In a match that lasted over three and a half hours, the John Jay women’s tennis team earned its first win of the season , earning a 5-4 victory over York College at the York College Tennis Complex on Thursday evening.
With the win, John Jay is 1-2 (1-0 CUNYAC) this season. York College is now 0-3 (0-1 CUNYAC).
The Bloodhounds won two of three matches in doubles to take a 2-1 advantage.
Elizabeth Cyran (Wood Ridge, NJ, Paramus Catholic) and
Ashley Marrero (Bronx, NY, Lehman)earned an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Lauren Mallon (Staten Island, NY, St. Savioiur) and
Jessica Eng (Brooklyn, NY, Fort Hamilton) won 8-3 at second doubles.
Cyran was a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles, while
Halam Katherine Seo (Queens, NY, Forest Hills) earned a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
York was victorious at No’s. 2, 3 and 6 as the match was tied 4-4 with No. 4 singles remaining.
Eng, a sophomore, lost the first set 6-2 before rallying back to win in three sets. She won the second set 6-2, before wrapping up the match with a 6-3 win.
“It was a great match, I am very exited for the girls, they are playing so hard,” said head coach
Natalija Subotic.
John Jay returns to action on Fri. Sept. 10 at Ramapo College at 3:30 p.m.
